Sick yes but rabid very unlikely! That skunk most likely is suffering from distemper. It is not exhibiting the signs of being rabid. But anytime an animal acts a bit off people jump to that conclusion.

Doesn't look rabid to me! I just got done raising 6 baby skunks due to the momma got hit by a car. This is a baby & is very aware of its surroundings. It's not aggressive & isn't trying to spray either! Although this guy keeps bugging it it will! They aren't the big bad wolf here. Been doing rehab for 30 years! No sign of rabies! Babies will come out to feed during the early hours of the morning to feed especially if something happens to its momma! Best thing to do is leave it alone! Now it will be trapped, killed, & tested! All because of ignorance! Rabies makes an animal dumb; ie: unaware of what's around them! Not the case here! Acting just like my 6 little ones, who have just been released back into the wild

Unfortunately had to shoot a rabid one in my yard this afternoon. Acting extremely odd and walking in circles. For those that say you should just call animal control. Sounds like a great idea except the nearest city that has one is a 100 miles away. Soooo!!! Could have called the sheriff's office but all they would do is come out and shoot it just like i did. Not everyone lives in a big city.

Well unfortunately I walked outside and there was a skunk out there next to my deck that obviously had rabies because it was falling over walking in circles it couldn't take a couple steps without falling over and unfortunately it made its way to my shed and went up under my shed. UGH!

You people crack me up! You think skunks spray just for the hell of it! They don't! Skunks spray when they are startled and have not been able to ascertain the extent of the threat, or when they truly feel threatened. Next word of advice - quit watching animal control/animal exterminators. They are the single greatest source of misinformation about wild animals. It makes sense, they want you to be fearful, but it is only in rare circumstances you need to be concerned. I would agree, however, this particular skunk seems to be having neurological issues, he's not doing the foot stomping one normally sees. It's their first line of defense. They will stomp their feet and raise the tail to say, hey I'm serious!

The most skunks we've counted in our backyard in one night is 14 different ones. Only one wild skunk in 100,000 in California has rabies. So they are welcome in our yard. I do observe their behavior closely. Without skunks I wouldn't have a channel. I'm sitting outside right this moment, waiting for them to arrive.

For anyone curious he has dumb/paralytic rabies judging from how the skunk is moving he's in early stages on symptom's showing since he's still moving quite a bit he has like 7-10 days to either survive are die sadly
